Ideas for project 2

have decided on some ideas to incorporate into my design after researching more on business cards and envelopes. I know the colors for my brand is dark blue with orange. I have change up my letter head after our first critique as well as the typography for my logo. Now I just have to figure out from my sketches which design will be the most successful for my business card and envelope. I want to do better on this critique with a flowing set of business cards and envelopes that brand Osaka Tourism.

Business envelopes

A business envelope has the company's name and address information  but it also needs represent the company in the right way. Colors, Font, and spacing is important to designing an envelope as well as branding your company. If the type is off it ruin the whole flow of the piece. I want my logo and my envelopes to flow well the business cards together and have that uniformity.

A Successful Business Card

Business card design process

I know that a business card has a lot of information about a company but also its representative of the company. A business card is someone that is directly from the company. The card needs inspiration, clarity, a well thought out design, and information about the company.  The card needs a website so customers can contact the company as well as an email address for further information. A website I found extremely helpful with understanding the who process helped me see what visuals and as well what settings I would use in illustrator if I wanted to create a business card all by myself. With the right direction and following the tutorial I was able to get more information on what to have on my business card for my project coming up. I found this cite very useful because I have never made a business card before but I see them often from other companies. I learned what format such as CMYK and what skills to use in Adobe Illustrator so I can easily get started this week.

I know how important business cards can make  a business more recognizable out there. Online has so many websites that can customize your cards and make your business booming by creating a unique image. This one website moo.com has so many templates to use to design your own card. An actual business card size is 3.5 by 2 inches. A website called tiny prints will actually let you upload a your own design to make your business card. A business card has a name, a phone number, a website, and a email address. A business card is more personal because it represents a person from the company of business.

I always wanted to know Japanese names and their meanings for some reason so I looked up some names. In the writing there are symbols and the names actually mean something. I found some of these name meanings interesting and I was thinking about branding and how some companies use the play on words to create their own image and name. If parents were naming a baby a Japanese name this would be helpful to known what the child's name actually means in Japanese. I had no idea that last names weren't common among Samurai and noblemen in the past. There are actually two kanji symbols that make up a surname and that I didn't know. Kanji I learned before is these Japanese's characters and its common to refer to someone from their last name

Japan

I wanted to find more places for traveling if I was visiting Japan. I found the Sounkyo Ice Waterfall Festival in Japan, this is something I got to see for myself in person. The festival is held from January till March and has ice caves and all these snow forts.

Another place I found was  the Tokyo Disneyland and this is somewhere I like to go. I've been to Disneyworld but I liked to see the Japanese version. I love theme parks and this would be a cool place to visit with friends and family. I always liked Disney as a kid and this would bring back some memories and make new while visiting Japan. The park was opened in 1983 and they have  Tomorrowland, Toontown, FantasyLand, and even AdventureLand.  This is somewhere anyone could have fun at wherever they decide to go to.

I know nothing about Osaka's attractions so I decided to research what places to visit to understand more about Japanese culture. One place that looks neat is the Osaka Castle and I feel like I could get a lot of information on Japanese culture visiting here. The are is actually a museum with all artifacts and history of Japan. The Osaka castle actually is a symbol that has been passed down from generations. The castle even has a park and even thirteen structures to see. The castle has plenty of cherry trees, war structures form the Edo period, and  including the Great Stone Wall. These large walls were built as protection for the castle from enemies and range from 70 to 90 meters in width. The museum even contains war armor that soldiers wore in combat  and this castle was known for its power.

I wanted to do more research on Japanese culture on their language and found out several things. Their language for example is an important part to their culture because its communication. Writing their language is something that takes skills to master. They use Kanji, which is characters weaved into their writing system. Kanji means "Hans Characters". I found out that there is in fact a basic Japanese phrase book including basic terms travelers would use. I found out the best way to improve your skills in speaking Japanese is to use it daily. Their language is also an art form because their symbols actually represent something. We use our language almost everyday and so its important to keep refreshing those skills if you want to successfully speak Japanese.

I was doing some research on Osaka's landscape and tourism. Japan is known for its Japanese gardens. I found this website very helpful and I got to see some landscapes and what Japan looks. I'm glad I found out that these are cultural landscapes that stand for certain historical events. This Japanese garden is actually in Chicago and I found it interesting that its provides part of another culture in America. This garden has a pond, walkway, and even a waterfall.

The Tower of the Sun

http://www.pref.osaka.lg.jp/en/attraction/visit/bampaku/index.html

http://www.pref.osaka.lg.jp/en/attraction/visit/bampaku/img/tower.jpg

I wish I found The Tower of the Sun sooner because it looks similar to a sketch idea I recently come up with for thumbnails. This is an actually piece of information that is has been quite helpful to me today. This definitely represents not only an important part of Japan but actually ties into my design  well. This park was designed to show the harmony of mankind created by Taro Okamoto.  Not only is this a park  a physical representation of Japan's culture and lifestyle. This shows me a feature of Japan's Tourism and attitude towards tourism. This  is a  major symbol of Osaka that I was looking for as one of the largest pieces of artwork . This is definitely big for tourism.

Thank you Willie :)

I have least narrowed down from my sketches on what to try in illustrator.
. keeping the design simple
. branding
. remaining the integrity in Japan

Osaka Tourism

Today in class we talked in great detail about logo design and branding. This got me thinking about successful brands such as Target, Coco Cola, and Apple. I did some research on Osaka and the area and some things about Japan. Family crests and hot spots with tourism. I want to be able to create a logo that can stand independently on its own but not give away the brand. I want to create a combination mark with my logo. For example if I was doing a logo for a computer company, a logo of a computer isn't out of the box enough for me. A too complicated design would be bad so something simple but works.

Things I learned about Osaka:

Japan and its landscapes

Food and how its ties with tradition

Tradition is big in Japan!

Osaka's beauty is something I might want to incorporate in my design.

Heres a website I found useful, http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2157.html
